Foreign Body Removal: A Simple Fix with a Smooth Recovery
Foreign body injuries to the foot are more common than many people realize. Small objects like metal fragments, wood splinters, or plastic pieces can easily be stepped on at home and become lodged in the skin, leading to persistent pain or irritation. At our Kailua podiatry office, we frequently see patients who don’t remember a specific injury—only that something in their foot doesn’t feel right. That was the case for Patient M, who began experiencing discomfort in her right foot and suspected she may have stepped on a small metal piece from a household project.
After an X-Ray, a metal foreign body was confirmed, and surgical removal was scheduled. The procedure was performed on Thursday, January 22, 2026, and the metal fragment was successfully removed. A plastic-surgery–style stitch was used to promote optimal healing and minimize scarring. Every step of the procedure—from pre-operative injections, to the surgical approach, to post-operative pain control—was performed with precision and intention.
Recovery was smooth and uneventful, not by chance, but because of how carefully the surgery was performed. Thoughtful technique, careful anesthesia placement, gentle tissue handling, and a detailed surgical process all played a role in post-operative comfort. Patient M did not require pain medication or anti-inflammatories after the procedure.
Unfortunately, post-operative pain is common after foot surgery when the technique is rushed or less refined. When foreign body removal is done properly, with intentional percison, patients often heal faster and more comfortably.
If you’re dealing with unexplained foot pain or suspect you may have stepped on something, early evaluation by a podiatrist can make all the difference.
